The Swedish correspondents who were the first to report directly from Spain during the Civil War were anarchists and syndicalists. They wrote more reports than the correspondents sent by the rest of the Swedish press, and it was they who covered the Spanish war for the longest period.

Although these correspondents’ efforts were unparalleled, their contributions have been overlooked. This also applies to the anarchists and syndicalists who were the first to leave Sweden to enlist as volunteers in the Civil War.

In this book, which is largely based on their own accounts, we follow some of these forgotten correspondents and volunteers during their eventful stays in Spain during the revolution and the Civil War.
