Description
Amanda is also the name of a young woman who was born in western Sweden, converted to Islam as a teenager and became increasingly radical over time. In 2014, she travelled to the IS capital of Raqqa with her husband, Michael Skråmo, and their young children.
Whilst her husband recruited new IS fighters, Amanda looked after the children, right in the middle of a war zone. Throughout this time, she kept in touch with her father in Sweden, Patricio Galvez. In January 2019, she died in an air raid.
Following his daughter’s death, Patricio Galvez decided to save what remained. He travelled to Syria and managed to bring his seven grandchildren home from the inferno of war.
Amanda – My Daughter’s Journey to IS is the story of a young Swedish woman’s radicalisation and a father’s race against time, bureaucracy and public opinion back home. The book was written in collaboration with journalist Joakim Medin
