In *On Gender*, Raewyn Connell and Rebecca Pearse provide an overview and an introduction to the central issues in gender studies. They start from the premise that gender is a key dimension of our private lives, our social relationships and our culture. In this dimension of life, we are confronted with difficult practical problems concerning our identity, our opportunities for fair treatment and, in certain circumstances, even our survival.

The book presents key examples from gender studies, describes the main findings of various research projects and serves as a guide to debates and perspectives. At the same time, it attempts to outline an analytical framework for gender studies.

This third edition is a revised and updated version of the second edition from 2009. Among the new additions is a chapter on gender and the environment.

Raewyn Connell is Professor of Education at the University of Sydney and has published numerous books on gender issues.
Rebecca Pearse is a research assistant at the University of Sydney.
