Description

The Danish group known as the ‘Blekingegadeligan’ robbed cash-in-transit vehicles and post offices in Denmark during the 1970s and 1980s, sending the money to liberation movements in the Third World. In recent years, the group has been the subject of books and TV series. Now, for the first time, the activists’ own account is being told.

Through historical documents and unique interviews, Gabriel Kuhn recounts the story of the black sheep of the Danish left. The members recount their legal and illegal activities, their collaboration with the Palestinian PFLP, and everyday life as a criminal in the service of the revolution.

Robbery for the Revolution provides a deep insight into the group’s theoretical development, from 1960s Maoism to economic theories on the unequal exchange between rich and poor countries. At the heart of it all, however, are the practical questions of how, as a resident of an imperialist country, one can make a concrete difference and contribute to socialist development.

The book is an important contribution to the left’s historiography. The Blekingegade Group’s perspective on global justice is highly topical in a world where the former colonies function as the rich world’s factory and the gap between rich and poor is only growing.
