Helsinki ilman natseja (Helsinki Without Nazis) is the biggest antifascist demonstration in Finland, organised annually on the 6th of December, Finland’s independence day. The demonstration, first held in 2016, stands in opposition to a fascist march organised by groups aligned with the Nordic Resistance Movement and other fascist groups since NMR’s banning in Finland.
Pretending to be a non-partisan patriotic commemoration of Finnish independence, the fascists’ ”612 torch march” has for long been an attempt to unite the far-right in Finland. Bringing together organisations ranging from the parliamentary right to street level neo-nazi groups, the fascist demonstration has been outnumbered by antifascists every year it has been organised.
A member of Aurora Helsinki, a socialist and antifascist organisation taking part in the coalition behind Helsinki ilman natseja, will be speaking about past experiences from the demonstration, the state of the far-right in Finland, and what is to be expected from this years Helsinki ilman natseja -demonstration
