Den 3 september rapporterar medierna: Hagabion tvingas stänga – taket kan rasa. I undertexten framgår det att även vi på Forum blir av med vår lokal.
Vi kollar efter mejl från vår hyresvärd Higab men tystnaden är total. Med tre knappa veckor kvar till Radikal Bokmässa har vi inget utrymme för kris. Vi biter ihop och kör på.
När mässan närmar sig får vi veta att vi får vara kvar i huset till den 5 oktober. Så vi kör. Smörgåstårta, invigning, kamrater. Men också: ilska, trötthet, förvirring.
Vart ska Forum ta vägen?
Att förhandla med över 20 andra föreningar är svårt; de flesta vill bara godta förslaget. Vi försöker stå emot.
Higabs lösning? Sahlgrenska huset vid Gustav Adolfs torg. Bra läge och det låter väl fint? Tills man ser att det är en fönsterlös bunker ovan jord, med klaustrofobiskt små rum. Då känns det mindre fantastiskt.
I Higabs pressmeddelande är allt frid och fröjd. Enligt dem har allt gått rätt till. Vi har fått en ”fantastisk ny lokal”, och det katastrofala husförfallet var bara otur.
Men det är inte otur att takstolar och väggar i ett 1800-talshus börjar ge vika. Det är resultatet av Higabs totala ansvarslöshet. Låter man bli att underhålla en lokal tillräckligt länge, så faller den ihop.
Vi ser det uppenbara: Higab vill bli av med föreningarna och ersätta oss med företag som kan pumpa in pengar.

What’s up with Forum?
On the 3rd of September the headlines go wild: Hagabion forced to close – the roof is unstable. It’s made apparent that we at Forum are losing our house.
We check our inbox to see if we’ve got anything from our landlord Higab but it’s dead silent. With less than 3 weeks left until our Radical Bookfair there’s no time for a crisis. We suck it up and keep it pushing.
When we’re closer to the bookfair we find out that we’re allowed to stay in the building until the 5th of October. Let’s go. Cake, opening day, comrades. But also: anger, fatigue, confusion.
Where should Forum go?
To negotiate with over 20 organizations is hard; most of them simply want to accept Higabs offer. We try to push back.
Higabs solution? Sahlgrenska house by Gustav Adolfs square. Good spot and it sounds nice? Until you realize that it’s a bunker above ground, with claustrophobically small rooms. Not so fantastic.
In Higabs message to the press everything’s all good and dandy. According to them everything was handled correctly. We’ve received a new fantastic house, and the decay of our old building was simply unlucky.
But it’s not just bad luck that leads to the walls and roof collapsing on themselves in an 1800s building. It’s the result of Higabs total irresponsibility. If you let off caring for a building for long enough, it’ll collapse.
We see the obvious: Higab wants to get rid of the non-profits and replace us with companies that can bring in the dough.
Syndikalistiskt Forum is closed – but we’ll live. All our books are stored away, but we won’t give up.
